what are issues debated at other schools? this can help our cause.

syndicate,

-thanks for the [thread].

-looking at your past comments, we have similar issues.....

-we have terrible modeling supplies, with no place to build or work on a larger scale. also overcrowding.

-the biggest complaint i have about my school, is the lack of contemporary thinking. the professors at my school were all taught in a very "beaux arts" style. so i feel that they push that onto us. probably where i got my thoughts on timeless architecture, anyway......... we have a very old curiculum that has been passed down over the years and the older proffesors aren't willing to stray from it, as if it were some holy grail. sooner of later it will change.

-it's great to see students come together like this. is your program is need of repair like mine? i'm guessing that most of the people here go to kansas state (nice clock tower....). i looked you guys up and you are ranked really high. i'm just curious as to what seems to be the problem. everything that i've read seems to be good.

sooner and later is now. you MUST take charge of it now. yea...i speak only for myself when i say this: ksu is stale right now. yes equipment is always a problem, for us it is deeply rooted in a cross-departmental "king of the mountain". yes rankings are nice...but i don't believe that the graduates are happy with where they are @. i don't see any fire in them. they just do the years and submit to as many firms as possible...do they actually want to be architects now? i don't know. do they want to be designers? i don't know. i want fire in our school...i want passion. i want the students to lead this. i just really want to get rid of this staleness of projects and thinking. maybe i'm an idealist.

Found a nice quote for you Tom:

If you are not an idealist by the time you are twenty you don’t have a heart, but if you are still an idealist by thirty you don’t have a head.

– Randolph Bourne.

ouch. i have a heart. that's something i have going for me.

"Follow those who seek the truth and run from those who claim to have found it."

Don't know who said that...

syndicate,

do you feel there are kids in your class/college with [fire]? or is everyone stale? are the studio's competative at all? what insentive do you have in you college to do well? is it based on one's own persuit to do better? what idea's do you have to ignite?

no i believe there are many w/ that [fire]. the problem is that i don't think we are taking full advantage of ourselves. yes competitive...but on diffrent levels. a job is our incentive...but a good one? ehhh. the firms our school brings in suck! i'm very sad that the alumni that come back have horrible firms. that is not my inventive...i believe in better things. i want more. i want [US] to do more. more art, more displays, more fun, more rivalry, more distruction, more ideas, just more!!!

I agree w/syndicate, I think that there is passion in the students our school, I just believe that it has been jaded and held back because of people thinking about doing what their professor wants them to do instead of doing what they want to do. Hopefully, if we get this student group organized, then the rest of the student body will see what they can accomplish on their own and it will give them more incentive to take advantage of their education and use it to explore as much as they can.
