it'll be interesting to see how much this concept changes before it's built, or unbuilt.

p.s. i included the links, because i know how much sam hates google-ing.

this is kinda funny. when i was in sweden i saw his 'turning torso' being erected.
sadly this building had NO CONTEXT! the poor Bo01 residential exhibition was totally dominated by his phallus. slamming into the ground w/ a horrible connection. despite his sexy rotation and exposed spine...i think it sucked. (note: the spine has NO STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY @ ALL!!!) a mere bolt on appendage giving the appearance of some 'new exposed structural system'. bollocks to that! i loved all his work, until i saw this...but i'm sorry, the final product sucks. better hire some more interns that actually know how to detail on the next one. maybe he should just stick to bridges.
Calatrava- dominating each city, one phallus at a time. (at least childs didn't get this one...yet)

sorry for the banter: here's some reading

tommy,

-thanks for the banter and the additional info.

-i agree that there's something wonderful to his other work that is not applied into these buildings.

-i have mixed feelings on this subject. for one, i love the fact that people are talking about architecture are expressing ideas on it. i also love anythng that can get people to stop and think about the city they live in, and how it is not this stagnet object, but a dynamic skyline that must be filled with buildings stating the time and conditions in which they were created. I was also excited to see Calatrava's name at first, but like i said earlier, i'm not thrilled with his taller buildings, and i'm not sold on this design yet. however i do like anything that can rattle SOM a little

calatrava's buildings to me have never been as sucessful as his bridges. but his style lends itself to long spanning tesile structures. this building is interesting structually [at least to me] and politically but i am not sure if i like it yet. need to see more images and how it ties into its context.
eric brings up a great point. this building stirs public discussion about architecture and the urban fabric of chicago. i just don't want it to be built just to be the tallest building in the us. the other thing is if donald trump is against it i am for it the only idea he ever had that were good was that television show and it sucked.
good post i had heard nothing about this building until now.

eric
i think this building, because of its author, its location, and its scale has the opportunity to be very cool. i am always sceptical until you have a finished product. yes i think the design is cool [as far as i can see from the few renderings i have seen] if anyone can find different views/ renderings of this building please post them to inform we ignorant folk.
